About the Ganghwa Island Tour
The tour will begin at Jendengsa Temple on Ganghwa Island, acclaimed as the oldest extant Buddhist temple in the entire Korean peninsula, founded in the year 381 during the Goguryeo period. Today, the temple actively participates in South Korea’s Templestay program, opening its doors to Incheon’s visitors and educating them about Korea’s Buddhist traditions.
The temple visit will feature a stroll of the temple grounds and a “tea chat” with traditional teas and breads at the temple’s teahouse. Lunch will also be provided during our visit to Jendengsa Temple and will consist of a vegetarian meal, customary of the temple’s religious and dietary practices.
After lunch, the tour will move to Geumpung Brewery, a 100 year old brewery specialising in fermenting makgeolli, a Korean milky rice wine well-known on the peninsula and worldwide. Delegates can tour the facility and taste the brewery’s latest products. The tour will close with a hands-on makgeolli demonstration, where delegates can try their hand at making their own makgeolli. At the end of the day, everyone will journey back altogether to Songdo Convensia.
